Alternatives to aural tests for deaf and hearing-impaired Piano candidates. Tests for other instruments and for certain special needs candidates are also available.

Candidates with certain special needs may replace part of their exam with alternative sight-reading or aural tests:

Blind and partially-sighted candidates may take either a Braille memory or aural repetition test in place of the standard sight reading test

Deaf and hearing impaired candidates may take new alternative aural tests to replace the standard aural tests
