Choosing your baritone books

Choose your repertoire, match your clef and find books for your assessment.

Where can I find other repertoire and current requirements?

Use Syllabus Finder and our official baritone and euphonium exam information to check the current requirements. Brass Mix, Book 1 and Book 2 offer additional shared brass repertoire for Grades 1 to 3 and Grades 4 and 5. Check the exact piece and edition against your syllabus before choosing.

Which books support Practical, Performance or Music Medals assessments?

Practical Grades assess three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests. Performance Grades require a programme of four pieces with no separate technical or aural tests. Music Medals is a separate assessment: its ensemble books and Options practice books support Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels. For baritone, Brass 1 Options is for treble clef and Brass 2 Options is for bass clef. Choose books for your own assessment and check what you already own.

How do I choose baritone books for my grade?

Choose your grade, exam route and clef, then use Syllabus Finder to check the exact repertoire and editions listed. A book’s grade band helps you choose suitable practice music; it does not mean every piece is on your exam syllabus.

Is there a Baritone Exam Pack or Exam Pieces book?

Our baritone range offers repertoire anthologies and separate technical books rather than a dedicated Baritone Exam Pack or Exam Pieces series. Use Syllabus Finder to identify the publication named for each piece, especially at Grades 6 to 8.

Which Shining Brass book should I choose?

Book 1 covers Grades 1 to 3 and Book 2 covers Grades 4 and 5. Each brass part book includes treble-clef and bass-clef material. Choose the book for your level and check your individual exam pieces against the current syllabus.

Do I need a separate piano accompaniment book?

Shining Brass piano accompaniments are sold separately in B flat, E flat and F editions. Match the accompaniment to the part and pitch you are using with your teacher. The key printed on the accompaniment book alone does not tell you which edition to buy.

Which technical books match my clef?

The technical books shown here are for baritone in bass clef, shared with euphonium in bass clef and E flat tuba in bass clef. Scales and arpeggios and sight-reading are separate books, each available for Grades 1 to 5 or Grades 6 to 8. If you read treble clef, check the current requirements with your teacher before ordering.

Do baritone and euphonium use the same repertoire?

Baritone and euphonium share our graded repertoire lists. Check the published clef and edition for each piece and any matching accompaniment. Shared repertoire does not mean every technical book or tuba edition is suitable for your instrument and clef.
