ABRSM Saxophone books for Practical and Performance Grades

Start with three checks: your grade, whether you are taking a Practical Grade or Performance Grade, and whether you need E-flat saxophone books for Alto or Baritone, or B-flat books for Soprano or Tenor.

For ABRSM Saxophone Practical Grades, most customers should buy the repertoire book for their exact grade, then add the matching technical books. That usually means a Saxophone Exam Pack or Saxophone Exam Pieces title, plus Saxophone Scales & Arpeggios and Sight-Reading, ABRSM Grades 1–5 or the separate Grades 6–8 scales and sight-reading books, plus the correct Specimen Aural Tests book for your grade band.

For ABRSM Saxophone Performance Grades, start with the repertoire book that matches your grade and saxophone family, then add any own-choice score you need for the fourth piece.

Performance Grades do not use separate Scales, Sight-Reading or Aural books as assessed exam components, so your main buying decision is the right repertoire title for your exact instrument.

Choose E-flat books if you play Alto or Baritone Saxophone. Choose B-flat books if you play Soprano or Tenor Saxophone.

This matters most for repertoire titles such as Time Pieces for E flat Saxophone and Time Pieces for B flat Saxophone, and for any exam book that is split by saxophone family. If you order the wrong key family, the book will not match your instrument.

Usually, buy the current cycle named for your grade. Where 2026 titles are available for your exact saxophone and level, that is normally the best place to start for current study and exam preparation.

If you are using an earlier 2022 title because of overlap or because your teacher already works from that edition, check the latest overlap guidance before you order another copy.

For Practical Grades, yes. Your repertoire book covers the pieces, but you will usually also need the matching technical books.

For Grades 1–5, the shop carries a combined Saxophone Scales & Arpeggios and Sight-Reading book. For Grades 6–8, scales and sight-reading are split into separate books. For Performance Grades, no, because there are no separate Scales, Sight-Reading or Aural components in that route.
